Be Exposed, Join Contests Like DJ Hunts!

When I was in my high school days, the rest of the boys in the class were up to video games, but my interests weren’t like theirs. During high school also, every one was hooked to their favorite tunes on the radio. So I thought being on the radio was also a cool idea. At 16, I got my first board work at local station and my ticket to radio fame was this local contest for a junior DJ.

It really helps to join those “DJ Hunts” you hear on the radio. You don’t have to be an expert. Just give it a shot, give all your best and most of all give your heart to this kind of endeavor. When you join a DJ Hunt, make sure you stop drinking cold liquid to get your voice muscles relaxed. Also familiarize catchphrases or liners that disc jockeys use on the air. Get used to saying the station slogan such as “Today’s Hitmusic, B101.5” or “Today's Refreshing Lite Rock, 103.7 Lite FM.”

If there aren’t any DJ searches on radio stations in your city, expose yourself as much as possible by joining phone in contests. You might not know that some of the highest paying disc jockeys in the US were discovered through phone in contests. Continue reading to page 4.
