Following the launch of the i0S Siri a few monthsearlier, a startup company based in Argentina has launched a speech-based programbuilt for Android phones this time, but focusing on Twitter.
It’s called The Social Radio App.
Note that this is different from the Myxer Social Radio (mixer.fm)
Myxer is a mobile-desktop radio platform that works like Pandora or spotify, only social-network based. You need a Facebook account and a US location to beable to sign up.
The Social Radio app is different. It turns your Tweetsinto spoken audio and streams them all like radio.
Led by CEO Roberto Gluck, the team, composed of iPhone, Android programmers anda sound engineer, launched a beta version earlier this month through their sitewww.thesocialradio.com.
Available from the Android Market, once installed, itwill read all your tweets in your timeline or choose to sort by topics or list.
It provides a number of benefits for Twitter users; itreads your updates while you’re driving or doing something else on the computer(since it also has a web version), a multi-tasking buddy it is.
It can even stream music from your own device’s library or through Google musicin between tweets.
It can speak different languages like English, French, Spanishand Portuguese. The app is still on a beta version so you can expect things tobe improved.
Among its limitations are:
Limited Language and Vocabulary/Dictionary– not all languages are available and it still has a hard time reading webslangs or terms. In fact, it reads GMAIL as g-m-a-i-l.
Abbreviated Words– it also has trouble reading abbreviated words like “srsly” which means “seriously”.
No Talk Backfeature – unlike Siri, Social Radio doesn’t let you talk back, so when itencounters tweets with links, you can’t check them out.
Intelligent streaming – if youchoose to stream your updates based on the timeline, you may get a streaming ofrandom content which is why streaming by topics or list is preferable.
Not Yet On iPhone – at least fornow, as mentioned earlier, their team is composed of an iOS developer, so wecan expect an iPhone version in the near future.
There is still a lot of room for improvements for thisapplication, but the ideas are promising. One day the team can even incorporatethis on Facebook, which is great because updates on Facebook are moreconversational and abbreviation-less.
The Social Radio App can be downloaded here https://market.android.com/details?id=com.thesocialradio

Blue Bluebird expert review by Karl Winkler
I’ve long had a great respect for Blue because they did something that no one else seemed to want to do: they made a unique-looking collection of microphones. Sure, many of their mics, including the Bluebird, are reminiscent of very old Neumann designs, but not even Neumann has made mics that look like these things for many decades. So while everyone else is copying the U87 look, Blue stands out. And they do it with style – their mics are powder-coated in interesting colors and finishes, and chrome abounds. In other words, they are eye candy in a category where most are lost in the conservative and traditional.
OK, so how does the bluebird sound? To me, it is a very “exciting” microphone with somewhat hyped highs and lows. In other words, certain things work with this mic and certain things don’t. But when they work, they really work. Voices sound huge, whether they be male or female. Drums sound powerful, and, well, huge. Acoustic guitars have a shimmer and depth that I’ve not heard from most other microphones. Sure, it’s not necessarily a neutral sound but it’s a very pleasing sound that tends to add a bit of spice to the mix. Considering the price of the Bluebird and that it comes complete with a shock mount and a pop screen, this package is hard to beat for the burgeoning studio.

Have you been podcasting or know someone who has been podcasting for quite sometime and have been doing so good that you'd wish they were a radio show?
A new web application, actually this started last year, is starting to make noise in the online radio atmosphere.
The app is called Spreaker.com. The idea is pretty much like BlogTalkRadio or any podcast platform that you know of. The difference is that this website lets you broadcast live and make it available as episodes. In fact, the Spreaker.com has its own in-site broadcast dashboard that looks a basic radio mixer, with channels for the microphone, and 2 music decks.
There is also a playlist panel where you drop all your songs and jingles, and an FX panel that lets sound effects during a live broadcast. It even has a library of FX and music.
It's social network integrated and allows you to embed across websites, social networks and blogs.
Watch videos and tutorials about how to start your Spreaker.com Radio Show here http://www.radiojinglesvip.com/apps/videos/
Or visit Spreaker.com to start your own show now.

We asked a few radio stations, FM and internet radio, about how they get their station to sound great without shelling out lots of money.
1. Stick with one producer. It’s all about building relationships. Your loyalty will be rewarded with discounts and freebies.
2. Choose the appropriate voiceover for your station fromat. It’s okay to jump from one voice guy to another especially if you’re still experimenting. Just like number 1, once you found the right voice, stick with him/her. If you are lucky, you could get a radio producer who also voices his own works.
3. Plan your imaging.
4. Think first before sending that script/copy. Trim and take out those extra words, make your sweepers concise and yet still understandable.
5. Go for a retainer.
6. If not, use stock jingles. It’s not bad, there are a few companies out there that offer pre-produced imaging at affordable prices for those grab and go jingle needs.
7. Go for producers that give you more.
It actually depends on how you view “savings”. Just because something is cheap, doesn’t mean you have already saved a few cents.
Some production companies give more flexibality to each jingle you order. Meaning, they give you extra cuts, fx and elements, and alternate versions that will help expand the lifespan of the jingle.

Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as World Wildlife Fund) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.
This is also a great opportunity for radio stations to take part. Stations like Blazin100.com have pledged to shut down streaming for one hour on March 26.
If you'd like your station to participate, download this free Earth Hour plug to advise listeners. This could also be your way of promoting the Earth Hour cause, of saving energy and loving Mother Earth beyond the hour. For more details of this global event, go to www.earthhour.org
