Just this week, the Interactive Advertising Bureau released a report announcing the increase of ad revenue in internet radio. This year numbers are up at 21% higher than last year.
The report was based on data from Edison Research and Arbitron collected since January 2011.
It further revealed that thirty four percent of web users or 89 million internet surfers have been listening to internet radio.
The top 3 contents are music, talk and sports. 71% of the 89 million people were tuned into a music-based web radio station. 13% tune in to a talk-based format. While, 8% go for sports.
The 21% percent increase of ad revenues is the biggest feat the industry has had. Major advertisers include automakers, restaurants, and retailers.
The study also showed an interesting data. Internet radio listeners respond more to online advertisement than usual web users. 18% have clicked on an ad immediately after he hears it compared to only 11% of general web users who responded to online ads.
Mobile listening have further proven itself as the next direction for internet radio, with 45% of listeners tuning in via their smart phones, mostly tuned within one to three hours daily.
