Fergie, Stacy Ann Ferguson in real life and former main girl of Black Eyed Peas is posing in front of a Z100 tarpaulin. Fergie, a few months back, unveiled a four million dollar deal with the clothing company Candie’s to infuse the brand into her songs.

Considered to be drastic measure for the industry, Fergie’s records execs are saying it’s a way to make more money out of recording. Fergie will sing and mention the Candie’s brand in her songs but will do it in a non-offending manner.

Fans however and other media practitioners are skeptical of these as it might cause spamming effect on the consumers.

What are the implications for this move to the radio jingles industry?

Well, for certain, this approach in branding has already been implemented in The Philippines. The music industry, radio and commercial giants -- all harmoniously dwell. Local artists were signed up to produce not just jingles for companies but songs. These songs were specifically and custom-tailored for a certain product. And because artists have huge impact to consumers, the large companies are able to benefit.

Among the companies and products in the Philippines who have commissioned recording artists in their marketing are Unilever for Rejoice (popular songs by Sandara Park), and Clusivol, (I Want To Be Complete by Piolo Pascual) to name a few.

This could be a sign of a falling recording music industry, but it’s also a signal of a new revolution in branding and imaging.
