This was the implication of CEO Mel Karmazin in a statement he recently made.
Although not specifically name dropping personalized internet radio services like Pandora, Karmazin said, such ventures are a failure in their businessmodels.
“Those companies which can grow users and provide good customer experienceusually have the worst business models.”
“To fix their business models, he said, requires "awhole lot more commercials, and that means harming the customer's experience.”
Karmazin who is exiting as CEO further insisted that their satellite radioservice, which is using the paid subscription model, is doing very well.
Despite this, SiriusXM will be releasing a personalized radio service inresponse to a clamor from subscribers.
SiriusXM is adding the feature because customers want the service, "notbecause we think it's a good business."
